Jie Yuan was born in December, 1985
in Changchun, China and began to
learn piano by age 5. By age 10, he
had won numerous first prizes in
piano competitions as well as being
accepted into The Xinghai Genius
Music School under the guidance of
Professor Li Xiao, the Dean of
Xinghai Conservatory of Music. After
winning first place in both the
China Five Southern Provinces Piano
Competition and in the China
National Chinese Works Piano
Competition, Jie became one
of the most popular young talented
pianists in China and as such, he
was invited to play for both N.
Sihanouk, the king of Cambodia in
2000, and for Chairman Jiang Zemin,
the president of People’s Republic
of China in 2001. In 2004, he placed
first out of 300 auditioners and was
accepted into China’s Central
Conservatory of Music. In the same
year, he received a full Scholarship
to Texas Christian University to
pursue an undergraduate degree as
well as an Artist Diploma in Piano
under the direction of Dr. Tamas
Ungar, Director of PianoTexas
International Academy and Festival.
Among the Gold Awards Jie Yuan has
received are: the Gold Medal and
People’s Choice of the 8th Annual
Crescendo Music Awards, the 11th
Annual Hong Kong Asian Piano Open
Competition, the 2002 All-China
National Piano Competition, the
Bechstein Concerto Competition of
Master Zhou Guangren Institute, the
Peer Jury Winner of 25th Gina
Bachauer International Piano
Competition.
During the 2005-06 concert season,
Jie played 25 concerts through China
and North America. In the 2006-07
season, he will play concerts in
China, the United States, Mexico and
Singapore including Tulsa Symphony
Orchestra, Shenzhen Philharmonic
Orchestra and the Qingdao Symphony
Orchestra. While celebrating his
200th concert last summer, the China
Ministry of Education declared
20-year old Jie Yuan
Artist-in-resident at North China
University.
